E is for Elderberry
I struggled with “E” but here it is… the Elderberry, not to be mixed up with the Elderflower (that you’ll likely have tried as a sparkling cordial drink) – they are from the same plant, but are not the same thing.
🟣 The Elderberry has more of a medicinal use than other, more traditional fruits. It is primarily used as an immune system booster due to being rich in anti-oxidants, especially anthocyanins which are responsible for their deep purple colour
🟣 Acting as a diuretic, Elderberry tea is thought to sooth the symptoms of urinary tract infections
🟣 Elderberries have anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat the symptoms of allergies such as runny noses and itchy eyes
🟣 Elderberries are high in fibre and can ease constipation and reduce bloating
!!! WARNING Elderberries must be cooked before consumption and are thought to be poisonous if eaten raw !!!
